A. JYOTHI NIVAS CENTER – A Model Community-based Rehabilitation Center for Homeless and wandering Psychosocial victims:
The Concept Behind…..In the case of mental illness, the reality is that proper care or treatment are not provided to the victims; instead they are ill-treated and isolated in their own families or chased to the streets to meet their own destiny. Our conviction is that most of such cases could be accepted, cared, treated and controlled;- may be through a long process of medical and psychiatric care and approaches like motivational, social, spiritual economical and occupational therapies of their aptitudes - and the victims could be rehabilitated as dignified and independent persons as integral part of the general society.
What We Do…… The organization gives shelter and takes care of the mentally ill who are destitute, wandering on the streets or abandoned by their respective families and the society.
The strategic approaches in this mission are:- Providing basic needs to the victims; food, shelter and clothing.
- Providing appropriate curative treatments for their mental / physical illness.
- Enabling and empowering the victims with appropriate Training & motivation to live as dignified persons in the society.
- Re-uniting the victims with their respective families as far as possible.
- Community rehabilitation of those who have nowhere to go.
B. SENSITIZING THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
The Organization is deeply involved in building up awareness among the general public about the causative factors & self-applicable preventive measures in the instances of psychosocial problems. The specific objectives of these outreach programmes are:
- Bring about a positive attitudinal change in the society in dealing with the psycho-social problems.
- Promotion of mental health among adolescence.
- Training of Care-Givers in the field of Mental Health (for other NGOs, Groups, Health Workers, Individuals concerned).
- Placement Training in Care-Giving to Psychosocial victims.
- Short-term Input Trainings.
C. QUALITY FORMAL EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN.
In the absence of accessible qualitative & value-oriented educational facilities for the rural communities around, the organization has started a quality Kindergarten by name ‘ Jyothis English Academy’. The institution is gaining wider acceptance and appreciations. We have the immediate future plan to develop it to Higher Secondary level.
